Capacity Building of Biomedical Engineering training & research (JU-BME-BMETR)


Detailed description of project

The general objective. To contribute to better health related services to Ethiopian women and men, by strengthening postsecondary training and education in the fields of biomedical, paramedical training and the ‘new medical education’

1. The core processes of the BME department are governed in a coherent way;
2. Newly developed MSc program is sustained by improved leadership competencies, shared vision and practice among staff;
3. Good quality, relevant and gender sensitive MSc biomedical engineering programme incorporating applied
research implemented and regularly reviewed by capable staff (academic and support staff);
4. 30 MSc graduated every year with competencies required by the labour market;
5. 95% of MSc graduates employed / self-employed;
6. Staff: 3 additional PhDs and 1 additional MSc’s
7. Gender balance improved to 30 % female among staff in all positions and to 40 % *) among students.

Type of services provided
 • Overall project management (technical and financial).
• Training Needs Analyses.
• Development of (gender) policy recommendations and policy guidelines developed
• Development of a tailored methodology for labour market analysis, to match the characteristics of the Ethiopian biomedical context.
• Development of indicators for the monitoring of the progress of the implementation
• Coaching and awareness & ownership raising of the participating parties, through organization of workshops, regional visits, focus groups and meetings.
• Dissemination of the project results.

• Development of a PhD research projects in Biomedical Engineering
